Surroundings has been designing and building decks, patios, outdoor structures, kitchens, and fire features in Carmel and Hamilton County since 1993. We're not a franchise and not a national company with a local office. We're a Hamilton County design-build firm that's been here for three decades, and plans to be here for three more.
Surroundings started in 1993 as a landscape and hardscape company serving homeowners in Carmel and the surrounding communities. In the early years the work was patios, retaining walls, and plantings. Homeowners kept asking for more: a deck off the back of the house, a pergola over the patio, eventually an outdoor kitchen and a fire pit. The scope grew because the trust was already there.
Over three decades we evolved from a landscape company into a full-service outdoor living design-build firm. Today we design and build complete outdoor spaces, all under one roof, all managed by one team. That happened because we said yes to the next thing our clients needed, and we systematized what most contractors leave to chance, so the outcome is consistent no matter how many projects we're running.
We changed our name to Surroundings Outdoor Living, and filed the DBA in 2026. The name is the only thing that changed. Same owners, same designers and project managers, same phone number at (317) 575-0482, same office at 200 S Rangeline Rd #129, Carmel, IN 46032, same warranties, and every project already underway continues exactly as contracted.
We made the change because the old name described where we started, not what we do now. You'll still see Surroundings by Natureworks+ on some review sites and directory listings while we work through updating them.
You work with a dedicated Surroundings team assigned to your project from day one. While the same person may not take every call, the team knows your project inside and out and stays with you through the final walkthrough and beyond, coordinating a vetted network of specialists so you never have to manage a job site yourself.
Your project kicks off with the planning site visit. From there, we develop your concept plan, manage the budget, coordinate engineering and permits, and oversee the build from first shovel to final walkthrough.
We coordinate a vetted network of specialists for every phase: excavation, framing, masonry, patio and deck installation, structure construction, and kitchen builds. These are people we've worked with for years. They know our standards, our timelines, and our quality bar, and your Surroundings team holds them to it.
We coordinate licensed electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, and structural engineers as needed, all long-standing trade partners. Your Surroundings team owns the schedule and the sequencing so you never have to call anyone but us.
